Praising God Forward

I will praise you, O LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders.
I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.  Psalm 9:1-2 (NIV)

This week my family will host the seventh annual John Webb Winter Golf  Tournament here in Pensacola, FL.  This is a fundraiser for the Child Life Program of Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital, part of the Miracle Network.  My son, James, was treated for cancer there.  It is an opportunity given to us to give back (or ‘play it forward’) by raising money to purchase fun and encouraging items for the children who face life-threatening illnesses.  We have been able to buy a plasma TV for the playroom, DVD/VCR players for the rooms (which are in need of replacement this year), a library of Veggie Tale movies, journals for aspiring writers, books, craft items, birthday bags and wrapping paper so that parties may happen, lullaby crib mobiles, and many other ‘little things’ to make a hospital stay a bit better.

We are not special people.  We have an extra-ordinary God who, when you make plans with Him, you may want to anticipate a big plan!  We are blessed in ways we keep discovering as we continue to follow God every year.  I wonder how many tournaments are opened with prayer. I wonder how many who play in the tournament receive healing because they are able to channel their own pain in a loving way over that child they know who has been a patient.

God desires to be a part of every aspect of our life and brings His healing and love and forgiveness into all situations.  Too often we try to compartmentalize God into the Sunday hour or the Wednesday night meeting.  God is a 24/7 Father, Savior, Friend, and Inspiration.  How spectacular it is to watch Him work!  How awesome to be a part of that work!

I pray that we will all take the rest of this week to open our eyes and hearts to opportunities to share the Good News of God with the many groups of people that God gives to us.  I am going to follow His lead this week and see what blessings will flow!  To God be all the glory!  And I will see you in the devotion time next Monday.
