For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.
So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. Â Â Â Hebrews 4:12-16 (NLT)
Our study group is in the book of Hebrews. Not an easy skim through kind of book! But it is so good to be in a group of people and just talk and share about what the LORD says in His Word. It is so timeless! This passage of Scripture describes the “tone†of the book for me.
The very words that God speaks are powerful. From Genesis I know that it was God who spoke everything into existence. I am one of those people who has no crisis of faith when it comes to creation and evolution. It is my belief that God spoke the first cell into existence. It was God who set into motion what we now know as the ‘science’ of animals evolving and becoming. And for me, when God saw that “it was good†He placed His Spirit into what I think of as man and so Adam came to be. And one day when I am in that classroom in heaven and I see and hear the true story of what and how it all happen, I feel confident that it will be the power of God speaking His Word that will be the beginning of my amazement.
Believe and trust what God says. From Genesis to Job to Psalms to the Gospels and Paul, my spirit has been blessed to receive the Living Word of God. So many messages for different seasons in my life, God has given me courage, strength, healing, wisdom, love and mercy through the beauty and power of His inspired Word. When everyone and everything else in my life has fallen short or let me down, it is God who has been my Rock and Anchor.
When I need Him most, He is there. The key words in this passage are both frightening and comforting. There is nothing hidden from God. There is no fear of someone or something that I can hide in a padlocked closet of my heart that God doesn’t know about. There is no secret sin that I can cover or ignore that God will not expose with the Light of His Spirit. My brothers and sisters, I should embrace great comfort in that knowledge because despite knowing the all of me, God loves me still and wants me to be free from these hidden, secret chains that weigh me down and hold me back from being the whole child He created me to be. And then there is the comfort of knowing that Jesus, God in the flesh, understands the weakness in me and shows me and teaches me how to walk through to victory in His strength, not my own.
So let us take our needs, every one of them, into the Throne Room of God. We are His children and the King is alwaysglad to see His children. Jesus is opening the door and walking in ahead of us. And in that place we find God’s unconditional love (grace) and forgiveness (mercy).
